Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center’s Emergency Department, open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, is a full-service Level I facility, a designated adult trauma center and a regional emergency medical system consultation center.

Located on level one of the Francis Scott Key Pavilion, Bayview’s Emergency Department includes a four-bed critical care/trauma suite, a four-bed urgent care center, a 20-bed acute emergency unit and a hazardous materials decontamination area. Patients who arrive via helicopter are brought to the emergency department by a patient transport vehicle. The Emergency Department entrance can accommodate four ambulances. All ambulatory patients are immediately triaged.

Helicopter landings are coordinated by the Emergency Department, and the charge nurse in the Emergency Department should be notified when a helicopter is expected. Maryland State Police (Med-Evac) helicopter evacuation should be requested through SYSCOM, 410-328-3156.
