Eligibility Requirements and Application Process

Eligibility

Open to currently enrolled full-time trainees at any division of The Johns Hopkins University including undergraduate, graduate and medical students, residents and fellows. Answers must be the ideas of the trainees and cannot have been funded from another source to be eligible. All aspects of the student's idea and this award must comply with all Johns Hopkins University policies.

Applicants must prepare an essay of no longer than five pages (single spaced), including references, with scientific support that addresses the riddle of cancer treatment. A University-wide panel will independently score the essays and the top five will be invited to give a presentation of their idea. The awardees will be selected from these presenters.

Application Process

Step 1: Submit an Application

Submit your application

Step 2: Application Panel Review

Department chairs from the science departments across Johns Hopkins University (Medicine, Public Health, Nursing, FAS, Engineering, etc.) will be asked to review. Each application will be sent to three reviewers for independent scoring. The scores will be compiled from the reviewers and ranked accordingly. Average scores will be compiled from the reviewers. If there is a tie in the average score, the differences between the scores will be the deciding factor.

Step 3: Presentation and Awards of the Top Five Ideas

The individuals with the top five scores will be notified by February 28, 2013 and invited to present their ideas at The Award Ceremony to a panel of selected cancer experts and other invited guests. The panel will review the presentations and announce the winners.
