Ventilator Assisted Pneumonias (VAP) Estimator
To ensure success of ventilator-associated pneumonia interventions, it is imperative to engage clinical staff and senior leaders within the ICU, hospital and/or health care system. The Johns Hopkins Quality and Safety Research group developed a tool that allows stakeholders to translate current and potential practice into useful measures.
The VAP Opportunity Estimator estimates yearly numbers of deaths, dollars and ICU days attributable to ventilator associated pneumonias within an ICU, hospital or health care system. In addition, the Opportunity Estimator quantifies the potential impact of VAP interventions by calculating the number of infections, deaths, dollars and ICU days that may be prevented if the VAP rate could be reduced.
The QSRG developed the VAP opportunity estimator with support from an unrestricted educational grant from Sage Products, Inc.
