To ensure success of the CUSP: Stop BSI interventions, it is imperative to engage clinical staff and senior leaders within the ICU, hospital and/or health care system. The Johns Hopkins Quality and Safety Research group developed a tool that allows stakeholders to translate current and potential practice into useful measures.
The Stop BSI – CLABSI Opportunity Estimator estimates yearly numbers of deaths, dollars and ICU days attributable to CLABSIs within an ICU, hospital or health care system. In addition, the Opportunity Estimator qualtifies the potential impact of CUSP: Stop BSI interventions by caluculating the number of infections, deaths, dollars and ICU days that may be prevented if the CLABSI rate could be reduced.
