Cost of Care
As a private, nonprofit hospital, Johns Hopkins aims to provide top-quality care in a cost-effective manner. Our costs are competitive with those of other hospitals in Maryland and the United States. Because Maryland legislature has adopted a rate-setting process for hospital charges, patients from out of state may encounter lower rates.
Hopkins participates with most major insurance plans. However, before making an appointment with us, you should contact your insurance provider to find out if the visit here is covered and to learn the specific details of your plan. You can ask if a co-pay or deductible applies, if there is an out-of-pocket maximum for patient payments, and whether you need a referral from your primary-care physician in order to see a Hopkins specialist, among other questions.
If your plan doesn’t include Hopkins, but you still want to visit us, you can make an appeal with your insurance company’s review board. You may also be able to work out a payment plan with the hospital.
