Treatment Services

The Schizophrenia Center

We care for patients with schizophrenia in a variety of settings: inpatient, partial hospitalization (day hospital), and several outpatient options at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and The Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.

Acute Inpatient Treatment

Our clinical program operates a ten-bed inpatient unit at the Johns Hopkins Hospital for patients who are acutely ill and need 24-hour supervised care for their safety and to initiate treatment. A full range of evaluative and treatment services are available as necessary for comprehensive individualized care.

Day Hospital (Partial Hospitalization)

For patients who do not need 24-hour inpatient care, treatment can be provided in our Schizophrenia Day Hospital. Patients can enter the Day Hospital from any inpatient unit or from outpatient treatment. The Day Hospital is operated from  8 am to 8 pm, seven days a week at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. Treatment is based on a medical model, with supervision by nurses with expertise in schizophrenia, group education and support activities, and daily assessments by an attending psychiatrist. The Day Hospital will provide door-to-door transportation for individuals in Baltimore. Housing is available without cost for as many as four patients who live farther away, or who need temporary housing during treatment in the day hospital.
