Schizophrenia Program

PHYSICIANS

Russell L. Margolis, M.D., Professor of Psychiatry, Director of the Johns Hopkins Schizophrenia Program. Dr. Margolis joined the Hopkins faculty in 1992. In addition to a long-standing interest in schizophrenia, his clinical expertise includes affective disorders, geriatric psychiatry, and neuropsychiatry. His research focuses on the genetic risk factors for schizophrenia, cell models of schizophrenia pathogenesis, and the genetics and pathogenesis of other neuropsychiatric disorders. Sarah Reading, M.D., Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, Co-Director of the Johns Hopkins Schizophrenia Program.  Dr. Reading has been a faculty member of the Department of Psychiatry, and an attending physician in the schizophrenia program, since 2000.   Her research interestests focus on using brain imaging to understand brain function and structure in schizophrenia and other disorders. Thomas Sedlak, M.D., Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Psychiatry.  Dr. Sedlak joined the Schizophrenia Program faculty in 2005 after completing a fellowship with Dr. Solomon Snyder of the Johns Hopkins Department of Neuroscience.  Dr. Sedlak’s research interest is in exploring novel pathways that lead to the injury and death of neurons, and potential mechanisms to block this pathogenesis.

Frederick Nucifora, Jr., D.O., Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Psychiatry.  Dr. Nucifora joined the Schizophrenia Program in 2009, after completing a research fellowship with Dr. Christopher A. Ross at Johns Hopkins.  Dr. Nucifora’s research interests include the biochemistry and cell biology of schizophrenia and other neuropsychiatric disorders.

Nicola Cascella, M.D., Assistant Professor of Psychiatry.  Dr. Cascella has a long-standing clinical commitment to schizophrenia.  His research interests include schizophrenia genetics, phenotype, and therapeutics. Newsletter article about Dr. Cascella's research. 

NEUROPSYCHOLOGIST

David Schretlen, Ph.D., ABPP, Associate Professor of Psychiatry, Director of Neuropsychology, Johns Hopkins Schizophrenia Program.  Dr. Schretlen joined the faculty of the Johns Hopkins Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences in 1988, and he has held a joint appointment in the Department of Radiology since 2003.  His clinical expertise is in the cognitive aspects of schizphrenia.  His research focuses on the relationship between individual differences in brain anatomy and the neuropsychological consequences of schizophrenia and other conditions.

PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT

Colleen Ohm, MMS, PA-C.  Ms. Ohm is a physician assistant specializing in the treatment of schizophrenia and related disorders. She works closely with the attending and resident physicians on the inpatient and day hospital units to assure the highest quality of patient care. 

SCHIZOPHRENIA PROGRAM NURSING LEADERSHIP

Terri Goodwyn, BSN, MSN, Nurse Manager.  Ms. Goodwyn has overall responsibility for the Meyer 5 inpatient and Day Hospital Programs and the First Step Day Hospital Program.

Beth Kahl, BSN.  Ms. Kahl is the senior nurse for the schizophrenia day hospital program.

Karen Abernathy, BSN.  Ms. Abernathy is the senior nurse for the schizophrenia inpatient program.
