Research in the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry covers a broad range of psychiatric illnesses, with a focus on developing effective treatments. Research in our Division is primarily funded by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) but private foundations and individual donors also provide generous support. The Division is also unique in that is has its own research- training fellowship (T32 grant funded by NIMH) that provides 2 years of funding for individuals interested in pursuing a research career in child psychiatry. Finally, the Division holds a weekly research seminar that is open to the public. The following provides a brief summary of the primary research interests of full-time faculty members in the Division:
Maggie Bruck, Ph.D. – Autobiographical memory and suggestibility of children with normal development, with cognitive impairment; cognitive mechanisms underlying childhood anxiety disorders.
Susan dosReis, Ph.D. – Utilization and dissemination of pediatric psycho-pharmacologic treatments in community-based settings and the relationship to the continuity, effectiveness, and outcomes of treatment.
Golda Ginsburg, Ph.D. – Assessment and psychosocial treatment of anxiety disorders, depression, and Tourette Syndrome; and reduction of post-partum depression in Native American teens.
Marco Grados, M.D., M.P.H. – Genetic and environmental factors in obsessive-compulsive disorder, Tourette Syndrome and autism.
Rebecca Landa, Ph.D. – Early diagnosis and treatment of autism.

RESEARCH TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES
Training Fellowships: A two-year training program in interventions research, open to M.D and Ph.D. applicants, is funded by NIMH. One or more faculty members supervise each fellow’s research. Fellows participate in Divisional and Departmental research seminars and complete coursework in the areas related to their research. The fellowship includes funds for travel expenses as well as for basic research supplies.
Clinical Fellows: During the second year of the 2-year clinical fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, elective time is available for pursuing research interests. Over the past few years, a variety of faculty/fellow designed research projects have been completed. Many of these have also been presented by fellows at national meetings as well as to colleagues in the School of Medicine.
Visiting Scholars: Depending upon the availability of staff and physical resources, international visiting scholars may receive individualized programs in clinical research.
