INPATIENT SERVICES

The psychiatric inpatient unit is a 20-bed open ward that admits approximately 300 voluntary patients each year from all socioeconomic groups and diagnostic categories. The unit is separated into two services:

Both services accept patients from physicians’ and psychiatrists’ offices directly and from emergency departments throughout Maryland.

SPECIALTY SERVICES

Specialty areas at Bayview include chronic mental illness, substance use disorders, geriatric psychiatry, neuropsychiatry (dementia, Alzheimer's and traumatic brain injury), sleep disorders, and behavioral medicine — the interface between psychiatry and other areas of medicine (e.g., burns, cardiovascular disease, chronic pain). Inpatient, partial hospitalization (day hospital) and/or outpatient programs treat adults, children, and adolescents are available in all these areas. Appointments are made through each of the individual specialty clinics.
