Access to Wellness is a prevention and recovery primary care service of the Community Psychiatry Program at The Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. Our goal is to improve the health behaviors associated with physical illness and cardiovascular disease for people living with serious mental illness.
The program offers preventive medicine, health education, and health counseling to clients of the Community Psychiatry Program. We focus specifically on the six leading causes of premature death in this population: cardiovascular disease, hypertension, cancer, stroke, pulmonary conditions, accidents, and diabetes. Our interventions are based on motivational interviewing and mindfulness training rather than a traditional medical approach.
REFERRING PATIENTSPatients are usually referred to Access to Wellness for conditions such as obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol, and smoking
