Background

Dr. Kimberly A. Skarupski is a professor of medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology) and a professor of epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health. As a social gerontologist and program evaluator, the major theme throughout her career has been the quality of life in older adults, using data from large-scale epidemiologic studies to examine disparities in quality of life, as well as the contribution of various social and psychological determinants of quality of life in older age.

In her dean role, she creates, delivers, and evaluates faculty career and professional development content. The major theme throughout her faculty development career has been to build community; for example, via WAGs (writing accountability groups), grant review investigator groups, "Next Chapter" senior faculty transition groups, career development coaching camps, peer coaching pods, leadership programs, and the international Faculty Factory podcast and website.

Dr. Skarupski received her B.A. from Gannon University. She earned her M.A. from the State University of New York (Buffalo) and her Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University. She also earned her M.P.H. from the University of Pittsburgh.
