Peter E. Petrucci, M.D. completed his surgical training at the Georgetown University Medical Center and its affiliated hospitals. He spent several years as part of the full-time Georgetown faculty, both at the University Hospital, and at D.C. General Hospital. In 1977, he co-founded Foxhall Surgical Associates, P.C, with his colleague, Dr. Paul Melluzzo.
Dr. Petrucci has been the Vice President for Patient Safety, Quality, and Medical Affairs at Sibley Memorial Hospital for the past 5 years, prior to which he served as President of the Medical Staff for four years. Past leadership roles in professional organizations have included: President of the Washington Academy of Surgery, President of the Georgetown Clinical Society, and President of the Metropolitan Washington Chapter of the American College of Surgeons. He has been an active volunteer with the American Cancer Society, previously serving as the D.C. Divisions President. His awards and citations include the American Cancer Society''s highest award, the St. George Medal and Citation for distinguished service in the cause of cancer control.
Dr. Petrucci is board certified in general surgery. He is a fellow in the American College of Surgeons and has been named by The Washingtonian Magazine as one of the top surgical specialists in the Washington D.C. area for the past several years. He also has been awarded distinction as one of the Best Doctors in America, having been selected by a consensus of physician colleagues as being among the top 4% of all physicians in his specialty.
Dr. Petrucci specializes in intestinal, thyroid, parathyroid, hernia and breast surgery and is a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons and the American Society of Breast Diseases. He continues to practice surgery, but limits surgery to diseases of the breast, hernias, thyroid and parathyroid, and colonoscopy.
