Melissa Luke Gonzalez, M.A., Ph.D.

Melissa Gonzalez is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. She earned her doctorate in clinical psychology with a specialization in working with individuals with intellectual impairments, autism spectrum disorders and other developmental disabilities in 2008 from Louisiana State University. She continued her training as a pre-doctoral intern and post-doctoral fellowship at Kennedy Krieger Institute and the Department of Pediatrics at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine where she further specialized in working with children with feeding disorders and severe behavior disorders/self-injurious behavior. Currently, Dr. Gonzalez supervises clinical cases in the Pediatric Feeding Disorders Program and provides training and supervision to externs, pre-doctoral interns and post-doctoral fellows in psychology and applied behavior analysis. Dr. Gonzalez is a licensed psychologist in the state of Maryland and a board certified behavior analyst (BCBA-D). She is a member of the Association for Behavior Analysis and Maryland Association for Behavior Analysis. Dr. Gonzalez has presented and published research papers on topics related to the behavioral assessment and treatment of skill deficits and behavioral excesses in individuals with autism spectrum disorders and other developmental disabilities. Specifically, recent publications and research endeavors have focused the behavior analytic assessment and treatment of pediatric food refusal and co-occurring behavioral excesses occurring both in and outside of the meal context, skill acquisition, and related caregiver training.
