Biography

Yannis M. Paulus, M.D., has a particular interest in applying physics, bioengineering, and mathematical modeling to develop novel retinal imaging systems and therapeutic techniques and technologies, including laser therapies, surgical techniques, and molecular imaging. He completed his ophthalmology and chief residencies at Stanford University, a transitional year internship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, medical school at Stanford University with a concentration in bioengineering, and an undergraduate degree at Harvard University in chemistry and physics.

Dr. Paulus has co-developed a novel, inexpensive system for providing tele-ultrasound, co-founded an ophthalmic imaging company, and investigates pattern scanning laser photocoagulation, laser-tissue interactions, and restorative retinal laser therapy. He has received several entrepreneurship awards and published more than 40 peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Paulus is a leader of his professional community, including being President of the Hellenic American Professional Society of California and serving as a consultant for several medical device companies.
