Background

Dr. Sarah Temkin is adjunct associate professor in the Johns Hopkins Medicine Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics. She also serves as a program director in the Community Oncology and Prevention Trials Research Group of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Division of Cancer Prevention. She specifically works with the NCI Community Oncology Research Program, which conducts multisite cancer clinical trials and cancer care delivery research studies in communities across the U.S.

Dr. Temkin received her undergraduate degree in psychology from Cornell University. She went on to earn her master’s degree in physiology and biophysics from Georgetown University, followed by her medical degree from Georgetown University Medical School. Dr. Temkin completed her residency at Mount Sinai Hospital and performed a fellowship in gynecologic oncology at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. Dr. Temkin joined the Johns Hopkins faculty in 2014.

Prior to joining Johns Hopkins, Dr. Temkin was associate professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Dr. Temkin’s research interests include chemotherapy, innovative clinical trials, radical surgery, laparoscopic surgery for gynecologic malignancies and health care disparities. She has co-authored more than 40 manuscripts in peer-reviewed medical journals.

Dr. Temkin serves as an ad hoc reviewer for several journals, including Cancer, Gynecologic Oncology and the International Journal of Gynecologic Cancer. She is a fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and a member of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

Dr. Temkin has been frequently recognized for clinical excellence and her surgical expertise on lists such as Baltimore magazine’s Top Docs and is a recipient of the Patients’ Choice Award and Compassionate Doctor Recognition on Vitals.com. Her areas of clinical expertise include treatment for ovarian, uterine, cervical, vaginal and vulvar cancers.
