Dr. Young is a Phi Beta Kappa member and Summa Cum Laude graduate of the University of Michigan. She obtained her M.D. from the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. She then attended Eastern Virginia Medical School for residency in OB/GYN. After residency, Dr. Young joined a practice in the Virginia Beach area which specialized in advanced pelvic floor surgery. In 2004, Dr. Young continued her OB/GYN career in Rockville, MD. She is currently the medical director at Shady Grove Pregnancy Center.
Dr. Young enjoys educating women about advances in the field of gynecology. She presented Grand Rounds at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in February of 2010 on the topic of HPV testing in cervical cancer screening. Dr. Young performed the first daVinci robotically-assisted laparoscopic gynecologic procedure at Suburban Hospital in early 2009, and has continued to utilize the daVinci system to perform multiple laparoscopic procedures, including hysterectomy, myomectomy, resection of endometriosis, and removal of ovarian cysts. She has a special interest in the treatment of uterine fibroids, abnormal bleeding, contraception, adolescent gynecology and abnormal pap smears.
Dr. Young strives to provide the best treatment for each patient. If medical options are not successful or desired, she has advanced training in minimally-invasive gynecologic surgery, which enables her to provide patients with cutting-edge technology to reduce pain, decrease hospitalization, and speed recovery.
Dr. Young supports both local and international charities, including Stepping Stones Shelter in Rockville, Maryland, and DirectRelief, which provides humanitarian medical aid throughout the United States and worldwide. Dr. Young also donates her time to the Shady Grove Pregnancy Center, where she serves as the medical director.
