Dr. Irvin is a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Emergency. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of California at Riverside in 1999 and moved to Boston where he completed medical school at Harvard in 2003. Following medical school, Dr. Irvin did his emergency medicine residency at Alameda County Medical Center- Highland Hospital in Oakland, California, where he was a chief resident prior to graduating in 2011.

Upon completion of residency, Dr. Irvin entered into the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Clinical Scholars Program at Penn, graduating in 2013 with a Masters in Health Policy Research.

Dr. Irvin’s interests center around health policy and youth violence prevention with a focus on fostering positive development of young adults and adolescents.

During residency, he helped develop the Summer Empowerment Academy (SEA), a youth empowerment program in Los Angeles run through the Manifest Your Destiny non-profit foundation established by Actor Hill Harper. As an RWJ Clinical Scholar, he conducted research projects looking at mental health diagnoses in violently injured youth and firearm policy. He has also been involved in the National Network for Hospital Based Violence Intervention Programs and was a member of the Philadelphia Youth Violence Prevention Collaborative’s data and evaluation working group.
