Biography

Nathan Irvin, M.D., is a clinical instructor in the Department of Emergency Medicine. He earned a medical degree at Harvard in 2003. Following medical school, he completed a residency in emergency medicine at Alameda County Medical Center - Highland Hospital in Oakland, California, where he was a chief resident, prior to graduating in 2011.

Upon completion of residency, Dr. Irvin entered into the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Clinical Scholars Program at Penn, graduating in 2013 with a master's in health policy research.

Dr. Irvin holds interests health policy and youth violence prevention, with a focus on fostering positive development of young adults and adolescents.

During his residency, Dr. Irvin helped develop the Summer Empowerment Academy (SEA), a youth empowerment program in Los Angeles run through the Manifest Your Destiny non-profit foundation established by Actor Hill Harper. As an RWJ Clinical Scholar, he conducted research projects looking at mental health diagnoses in violently injured youth and firearm policy. He has also been involved in the National Network for Hospital Based Violence Intervention Programs and was a member of the Philadelphia Youth Violence Prevention Collaborative’s data and evaluation working group.
