Research Summary

Dr. McGowan is currently working on three research projects. Her study of food allergy prevalence using the National Health and Nutrition Examination Study database was recently published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology. Additional studies are of food allergy (in the URECA birth cohort) and the relationship of maternal folate to food allergy in the Boston Birth Cohort, the latter with Johns Hopkins pediatric immunologists Robert Wood and Corrine Keet. In addition, she is examining the prevalence and risk factors for developing food allergy in inner city children (in the URECA birth cohort), as well as investigating the relationship of maternal folate supplementation and food allergy in the Boston Birth Cohort.
