Background

Megan M. Tschudy, MD, MPH is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine; Lead Faculty for the Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Data Management Core (BEAD) at the Johns Hopkins University; and Editor-in-chief of the Pediatric PEAC Online Learning Program.

Dr. Tschudy is a leading researcher in health system redesign. She focuses on ways to improve health equity by reimagining school-based health interventions, increasing family and community engagement, such as through community health workers, and improving clinical and education outcomes for children with asthma. She is recognized nationally for her innovative work extending beyond the traditional health services research space to incorporate community-based metrics, such as absenteeism, and integrating metrics with regional health information exchanges.

Grants from the National Institutes of Health, Robert Wood Johnson, Bloomberg American Health Initiative, United Health Foundation, and State Medicaid Managed Care Organizations currently support her community- and school-based research. Dr. Tschudy previously led a national quality improvement project funded by the Maternal and Child Health Bureau to improve family engagement in pediatric primary care and served as an expert for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) reports on school-based asthma care and community health worker certification.

She received an Academic Pediatric Association Bright Futures Young Investigator Award and NIH Loan Repayment Program in Disparities Research. Honoring her community-based health equity work, she was chosen as a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar (2017-2020).

In 2019 Dr. Tschudy was recognized nationally as a top pediatric health services researcher receiving the Academy Health Child Health Services Research Award.

For 8 years Dr. Tschudy served in clinical leadership roles in the Harriet Lane Clinic, including as Medical Director. In this role she oversaw a large academic pediatric clinic that provides primary care and wrap-around services to publicly-insured children and their families. The clinic is a training site for over 150 Johns Hopkins fellows, residents, medical and nursing students per year.

Dr. Tschudy is actively involved in medical student, resident and fellow education, serving as a teaching attending and clinical and research mentor. Home visiting education curriculum that she developed and implemented is used as a national model for medical schools and residency training programs.

Currently, Dr. Tschudy serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Pediatric PEAC Johns Hopkins Online Learning Program. This online pediatric ambulatory curriculum is used by thousands of pediatric and med-peds residency trainees. She is also the co-editor of the Harriet Lane Handbook, 19th Edition, which is one of the most widely used clinical pediatric handbooks nationally and internationally.

Dr. Tschudy graduated from Amherst College with Distinction in Neuroscience and Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She completed a residency in Pediatrics and served as Chief Resident at Johns Hopkins. She received her Master in Public Health (MPH) concentrating in health disparities from the Bloomberg School of Public Health and completed a General Academic Pediatrics Research Fellowship in the Johns Hopkins Division of General Pediatrics.
