Dr. Freeman is a board-certified neurologist and vascular neurology specialist with Johns Hopkins Community Physicians (JHCP) who provides a unique perspective on frontline inpatient and outpatient care as a clinician, program leader, and advisor to early and seed stage companies.
Dr. Freeman is the Medical Director of the Sibley Memorial Hospital/Johns Hopkins Medicine Stroke Program in Washington, DC. During his tenure Sibley Memorial Hospital has obtained Joint Commission certification as a primary stroke center, and received both the Get With The Guidelines®—Stroke Gold-Plus Quality Achievement Award and Target: Stroke Elite recognition from the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association.
Dr. Freeman's clinical work is primarily as a neurohospitalist and he also sees general neurology and stroke patients through the JHCP Clinic at Sibley.
Dr. Freeman serves as the Physician Chair of the DC Stroke Collaborative, a coalition that includes all of the Washington, DC hospitals. The Collaborative's initiatives include helping shape D.C. legislative and regulatory policy with respect to the stroke population, leading DC FIRE and EMS stroke training and education, helping implement the latest in advanced stroke care techniques and research, and performing community outreach to local residents.
Dr. Freeman also serves on the physician advisory board for the Johns Hopkins Medicine Sibley Hospital Innovation Hub.
Dr. Freeman serves as the section chief of Neurology, a division of Internal Medicine at Sibley and serves on the Board of Trustees for the Sibley Memorial Hospital Foundation.
Prior to joining JHCP, Dr. Freeman was a Vascular Neurology Fellow at the National Institutes of Health (NIH)/National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) where he received advanced training in acute neuroimaging techniques and served as co-investigator on numerous NIH/NINDS clinical trials. His clinical research has led to a number of peer reviewed abstracts, posters, and journal publications.
Dr. Freeman earned a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from Brandeis University and his medical degree at the Georgetown University School of Medicine. He completed his neurology residency at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in New York.
