Dr. Michael L. Palmer is a surgical oncologist of Sibley Memorial Hospital, as well as a clinical assistant professor of surgery at Georgetown University Medical School. He is board certified in general surgery and practices out of Johns Hopkins Community Physicians locations in Arlington, Va.; Washington, D.C.; and Bethesda, Md.
Dr. Palmer has a range of expertise, including benign and malignant diseases of the breast, sentinel lymph node surgery for breast cancer and melanoma, colon cancer, colon polyps, colon surgery, diverticulitis, gallbladder surgery, hernia repair and laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery.
Dr. Palmer earned his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine, where he also completed his residency in general surgery. He completed a surgical oncology fellowship at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Dr. Palmer went on to work as an attending surgeon and assistant professor of surgery at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He was also previously the associate chief of the breast department and a member of the gastrointestinal and endoscopy services at Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
Dr. Palmer is a fellow of the American Colleges of Surgeons and a member of The Society of Surgical Oncology, The Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons, the D.C. Medical Societies and other medical organizations. Dr. Palmer has been named a Top Surgical Specialist in the Washington, D.C. area by Washingtonian Magazine and a Top MD by Consumers’ Checkbook Magazine.
