Research & Publications
Selected PublicationsDr. Hales research activities focus on improving the effectiveness of radiation therapy for patients with lung and esophagus cancer. His interests bridge pre-clinical models of cancer treatment with innovative therapies. By exploring the effects of hedgehog pathway signaling on tumor response to radiation treatment, Dr. Hales research group is translating pre-clinical discovery to clinical trials to improve outcomes in patients needing radiation treatment.
He also evaluates new radiation technologies and their use in patients with lung cancer. For example, 4D MRI is being investigated as a means of more accurately tracking tumor motion with breathing, which results in improved targeting of tumor. He is also analyzes the benefit of daily image guidance in patients undergoing radiation therapy. Predictive models are being created which help personalize need for image guidance in patients undergoing therapy.
