Jose Mejia, M.D. practices exclusively at JHCP General Surgery at Howard County. He specializes in the full range of abdominal surgeries to treat a variety of conditions, such as stomach cancer, hernias, gallbladder disease and diseases of the lower digestive tract. Dr. Mejia has a special interest in the diagnosis and repair of inguinal hernias, using advanced laparoscopic, open and mesh techniques. He performs emergency surgery and elective procedures by appointment.
Most recently, Dr. Mejia served as chief of general surgery at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Johnson City, Tenn. He also was clinical associate professor of surgery at East Tennessee State University. After earning his degree at the Central University of Ecuador, Dr. Mejia completed his residency in general surgery at East Tennessee State University. A member of both the American College of Surgeons and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Laparoscopic Surgeons, he is board certified in general surgery.
