Biography

Dr. Brian O’Rourke is a Professor of Medicine at the Heart and Vascular Institute. He studies the regulation of ion channels by energy metabolism in heart cells, oscillatory behavior of energy metabolism, excitation-contraction coupling in heart failure, ca-activated chloride currents and molecular manipulation of cardiac excitability.

Dr. O’Rourke holds a bachelor’s degree from Pennsylvania State University and a graduate degree from Thomas Jefferson University. He completed the Foerderer Fellowship and NIH training grant fellowships at the Thomas Jefferson University and a fellowship within the Cardiology Division at Johns Hopkins University before joining the Johns Hopkins faculty in 1993. He is a member of the International Society for Heart Research, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Sigma Xi Research Society, the Biophysical Society, the Cardiac Muscle Society, the Fellow of the American Heart Association , and the International Society for Heart Research, and serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Molecular and Cellular Biology and Basic Research in Cardiology.
