Background

Dr. Judith Mitrani-Reiser holds a joint appointment in emergency medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She is an assistant professor of civil engineering at the Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering. Her research focuses on structural, infrastructural and social impacts of disasters.

She serves as the director of the Sensor Technology and Infrastructure Risk Mitigation (STIRM) Laboratory and co-director for the Center for Systems Science and Engineering.

Outside of her work at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Mitrani-Reiser serves as director of Disaster and Failure Studies for the Community Resilience Group of the National Institutes of Standards and Technology.

Dr. Mitrani-Reiser earned her Ph.D. (George Housner Fellow) in applied mechanics at the California Institute of Technology. She earned an M.S. in civil and environmental engineering at the University of California, Berkeley, and a B.S. in civil and coastal engineering at the University of Florida.
