    Research Summary

Formally trained as a Genetic Epidemiologist I have an appointment as an Assistant Professor in the Divisions of General Internal Medicine and Allergy and Clinical Immunology in the Department of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University. My research encompasses both cardiovascular and allergic airway disease with more than a decade of experience in the analysis of quantitative traits making contributions in both methodological and applied aspects of high-throughput statistical genetics in both genomewide linkage and association arenas. More recently, I am extensively involved with the two large public sources of sequence data serving on the Samples and ELSI committee of The Thousand Genomes Project, and co-investigator on the Exome

Sequencing Project where I serve on the Statistical and Populations Genetics committee. As a lead Genetic Epidemiologist on the Lung Cohorts Projects within the ESP I am responsible for the analysis of two of the six lung cohorts represented; Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension and the Lung Health Study. My common interest   across the various phenotypes and genetic approaches described above is the application of genetics to the area of health disparities, with a specific emphasis on health disparitiesin asthma and cardiovascular disease in populations of African ancestry. Within the GeneSTAR program, I assume a leadership role for the statistical genetic analysis and interpretation/application of the new frontier of genetic technologies - Next Generation Sequencing - in the context of African ancestry in the GeneSTAR families and play a prime role in the studies   of platelet function.
