Dr. Rachel Chan Seay is an GYN/OB physician and researcher at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She is also a clinical instructor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, where she earned her M.D. She completed her internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Washington, D.C., where she served as chief resident. She has served as visiting clinical faculty in Thomonde, Haiti; at Hospital Nacional Juan Jose Ortega in Coatepeque, Guatemala; and at Orotta School of Medicine in Asmara, Eritrea. She works with Doctors Without Borders and has completed emergency GYN/OB missions in Sierra Leone and South Sudan. Dr. Seay is also involved in the Because Tomorrow Needs Her women’s health initiative. She was the 2015 fellow in the History of American Obstetrics and Gynecology at the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in Washington, D.C. Dr. Seay’s scholarly interests include the history of medicine, strategies to decrease maternal mortality and designing medical education curricula in global health. more

  • Faculty Supervisor, Health Outreach Partnership with EVMS Students (H.O.P.E.S.) Clinic, Norfolk, Virginia, 2014 - 2015
    The HOPES free clinic is staffed by students, residents and physicians from Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS). The HOPES Clinic serves uninsured citizens of Norfolk, Va., with long-term and specialty care, and aims to promote a sustainable community service to under-served community residents while providing a unique educational experience for EVMS students. The Women’s Health Clinic is an OB/GYN specialty clinic held one evening per week.
  • Urogynecology/Gynecology/General Surgery Externship, Health Talents International, Clinica Ezell, Montellano, Suchitepequez Department, Guatemala, 2010
    One-week surgical trip; included assisting all gynecologic surgeries, pre- and postoperative care of 50 patients undergoing pelvic organ prolapse repair, and general gynecologic procedures.
  • Reconstructive Plastic Surgery Externship, International Medical Relief, Mekelle, Tigray Region, Ethiopia, 2008
    Two-week surgical trip; included assisting 25 reconstructive surgeries, pre- and postoperative care. Also worked with Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists, training local physicians in basic obstetric ultrasound techniques.
  • Ob/Gyn Externship, Hospital Universitario del Valle, Cali, Colombia, 2008
    Two-month rotation as fourth-year medical student in Obstetrics and Gynecology at tertiary public hospital serving greater southeastern region of Colombia, including a large, internally-displaced population.
