Dr. Jason D. Engel is a urologist affiliated with Sibley Memorial Hospital and George Washington University Hospital, where he is the director of urologic robotic surgery and a clinical associate professor. Dr. Engel is certified in urology by the American Board of Urology. He practices out of Urologic Surgeons of Washington in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Engel was the first to successfully perform a robotic prostatectomy in the region and is the founder of the robotic prostatectomy program at George Washington University Hospital. He has personally performed over 600 robotic prostatectomies, though his expertise expands to include the largest series of ureteral and bladder surgeries in the region as well. Dr. Engel also performs major oncologic procedures such as open and laparoscopic kidney surgery, open and robotic bladder surgery and complex urologic reconstruction. He performs more in-office minimally invasive treatments for enlarged prostate than any other surgeon in the area and is a member of the kidney transplant team at Howard University Hospital.
Dr. Engel earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He completed a residency in urology at Northwestern University School of Medicine.
Dr. Engel has been named a Regional Top Doctor by Castle Connolly and Top Doctor by Washingtonian Magazine, being the youngest urologist to earn that designation.
Dr. Engel has contributed to numerous publications, book chapters and presentations on urology and robotic surgery topics. He has a research interest in penile rehabilitation after prostatectomy and is the principal investigator on two clinical trials aimed to maximize erection rates after prostatectomy.
