Dr. Donald A. O’Kieffe is a gastroenterologist affiliated with Sibley Memorial Hospital and George Washington University Hospital, as well as a long-standing medical consultant to the Department of State Medical Division and the White House. Dr. O’Kieffe is board certified in gastroenterology and internal medicine. He practices out of Capital Digestive Care’s Metropolitan Gastroenterology Group, located in Washington, D.C. and Chevy Chase, Md. 

Dr. O’Kieffe has an expertise in colonoscopy and early colon cancer detection. 

Dr. O’Kieffe earned his medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine. He completed residencies in internal medicine at the University of Illinois College of Medicine and Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Dr. O’Kieffe also completed a fellowship in gastroenterology at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Dr. O’Kieffe performed the area’s first colonoscopy in 1972 and has previously worked as the associate chief of gastroenterology at the D.C. General Hospital. 

Dr. O’Kieffe has been repeatedly named a Top MD by Washingtonian Magazine. Dr. O’Kieffe has served on several committees and on the board of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, for which he is now the delegate to the American Medical Association. Dr. O’Kieffe is a fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology and the American College of Physicians. He is also a member of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America, the D.C. Society of Internal Medicine and the American Gastroenterological Association, amongst other professional organizations. 

Dr. O’Kieffe has contributed to various publications on gastroenterology topics.
