Dr. Benjamin A. McArthur is an orthopaedic surgeon associated with Sibley Memorial Hospital. He practices out of Washington Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine in Chevy Chase, MD.
Dr. McArthur has an expertise in hip and knee replacement, complex revision hip and knee replacement and hip preservation surgery.
Dr. McArthur earned his undergraduate degree from Rice University and his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. McArthur completed a general surgery internship at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/New York Weill Cornell Center, where he was also a clinical associate in orthopaedic surgery. He was a clinical associate in orthopaedic surgery at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center as well. He completed a residency in orthopaedic surgery at Hospital for Special Surgery, followed by a fellowship in adult lower extremity reconstruction at the Mayo Clinic Medical School College of Medicine.
Dr. McArthur is a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
Dr. McArthur was awarded multiple research grants during his orthopaedic surgery residency at Hospital for Special Surgery, where he went on to earn the Lewis Clarke Wagner Resident Research Award. Dr. McArthur has published peer-reviewed articles, abstracts and book chapters, and presented nationally and internationally on his expertise of hip and knee replacement. His additional research interests include young adult hips, hip preservation and computer-assisted surgical techniques. He currently reviews research for the Bone and Joint Journal, Clinical Orthopedics and Related Research and the Journal of the Hospital for Special Surgery. In 2013, Dr. McArthur was also selected to be a member of the Resident Advisory Board for the American Journal of Orthopedics.
