Zack Berger completed his MD, and his PhD degree in epidemiology, at New York University, and completed a primary care/internal medicine residency at NYU/Bellevue Hospital. Since 2009 he has practiced adult medicine at the Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center, as well as teaching in the resident clinic. His research centers on the role of the primary care provider in cancer care, particularly prostate cancer, and on doctor-patient communication and bioethics. His book Talking To Your Doctor was published in 2013.

    Research Summary

    Research Summary

    Dr. Berger's main research interest is the role of the primary care provider in cancer care, particularly localized prostate cancer, to improve patient satisfaction and clinical outcomes and to reduce overuse. He is the lead author of a mixed-methods study of patient experiences in a prostate cancer active surveillance program, and conducing a systematic review of the PCP's role in cancer. Dr. Berger is also interested in physician-patient communication (his book on the subject, Talking To Your Doctor, was published in 2013) and in patients' exercise of autonomy.
