Thierry A.G.M. Huisman, M.D., is chairman of the Department of Imaging and Imaging Science at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. In addition, he serves as director of the Division of Pediatric Radiology and Pediatric Neuroradiology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Furthermore he is co-director of the Neurosciences Intensive Care Nursery (NICN)
Dr. Huisman is a professor of radiology, pediatrics, neurosurgery and neurology. He graduated cum laude from medical school at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, before completing residencies in radiology and pediatrics, and fellowships in pediatric radiology and neuroradiology at the University Hospital Zurich in Switzerland. He became Chairman and Radiologist-in-Chief of the Department of Diagnostic Imaging at the University Children’s Hospital Zurich in 2005, before he was recruited to Johns Hopkins in 2007. Dr. Huisman also enjoyed a 2.5 year research sabbatical at the Massachusetts General Hospital NMR center.
With a primary focus of expertise and research in pediatric neuroradiology, advanced neuroimaging and fetal MRI, Dr. Huisman has given more than 300 invited lectures, published >250 peer reviewed articles and reviews, 50 book chapters, serves on multiple scientific committees of the various radiological societies and has organized multiple national and international scientific and teaching meetings. He is a faculty member of the AIRP/ACR course in Washington, DC, and course advisor for the IDKD course in Davos, Switzerland. He is a reviewer for multiple scientific journals and is an editorial member of five journals. He served as president of the American Society of Pediatric Neuroradiology (2014/15) and is an elected fellow of the International Cancer Imaging Society. He is a senior editor for the American Journal of Neuroradiology.

Research & Publications
Dr. Huisman's research is focused on the use of advanced neuro-imaging in the qualitative and quantitative evaluation of the normal developing and diseased or injured pediatric brain. Furthermore Dr. Huisman works on the non-invasive imaging of the unborn child (fetal MRI) and is advancing various imaging techniques that do not use ionizing radiation. Finally, Dr. Huisman is focused on a child and family friendly and centered pediatric radiology in which multiple approaches and tools are used and combined to image very young children with minimal or no sedation.
