Biography

Dr. Steve Petersen is an associate professor of orthopaedic surgery at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. His areas of clinical expertise include shoulder disorders and arthritis and should injuries, including rotator cuff injuries, shoulder fractures, shoulder joint dislocations and sports injuries to the shoulder. He offers arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, shoulder replacement and shoulder instability stabilization surgery.

Dr. Peterson is the co-director of the Johns Hopkins Division of Shoulder Surgery and the Shoulder Fellowship Program at Johns Hopkins. He is the director of the Shoulder Service at Johns Hopkins Orthopaedic Surgery at Good Samaritan Hospital and a team physician for the Baltimore Orioles Baseball Club.

After graduating with honors from Rush Medical School, Dr. Petersen completed an orthopaedic residency and research fellowship at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine, Mayo Clinic, where he also received a master's degree in Orthopaedic Sciences.

After serving as associate chief of orthopaedic surgery at Letterman Army Medical Center, Dr. Petersen completed a fellowship in shoulder surgery and sports medicine at the Steadman-Hawkins Clinic in Colorado. He was awarded the prestigious European Traveling Shoulder Fellowship by the American Shoulder and Elbow Society.

He served as associate professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Wayne State University School of Medicine where he was the interim chairman and director of the Adult Shoulder Service.

Dr. Petersen is a member of numerous professional societies including the American Shoulder and Elbow Society and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He was named assistant editor for the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery in 2009.
