Biography

John Carrino is an Associate Professor in the Johns Hopkins Medicine Department of Radiology and Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, and Section Chief of Musculoskeletal Radiology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. His areas of clinical expertise include diagnostic radiology, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) neurography, image-guided therapy, and medical informatics.

Dr. Carrino received his undergraduate and medical degrees from George Washington University. He completed his radiology residency at Yale’s New Haven Hospital and received a master of public health degree from Harvard School of Public Health.

Prior to joining Johns Hopkins, Dr. Carrino was the clinical director of interventional MRI at Harvard’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Dr. Carrino’s research interests include spine imaging, novel MRI techniques, health services research, and informatics.

Dr. Carrino serves on the board of directors for the PACS Administrator Registry and Certification Association and is a representative of the American College of Radiology to the DICOM standards committee. He was awarded the Society of Interventional Radiology’s Distinguished Faculty Award and Brigham and Women’s Hospital’s George Marina Teaching Award. He is a member of the American College of Radiology, the Radiology Society of America, the Society of Interventional Radiology and the PACS Administrator Registry and Certification Association.

    Research Summary

    Dr. Carrino’s research focuses on musculoskeletal diagnostic imaging, image-guided therapy, medical informatics, and health services research. Recent research focuses primarily on the effectiveness and consideration of using magnetic resonance neurography for treating musculoskeletal pain.

    Dr. Carrino has written numerous scientific and review papers on musculoskeletal imaging, image-guided intervention, and informatics.
