Dr. Bingham’s current research is broadly centered on improving the assessment of patients with inflammatory arthritis through more precise disease phenotyping, spanning from biochemical characterization to measuring individual patient level disease experience and contextual factors. This work takes advantage of an integrated clinical and research operation and infrastructure to couple investigation with clinical care.
Dr. Bingham directs a number of research projects: (1) Improving the assessment of the patient’s perspective of inflammatory arthritis through development and testing of patient reported outcome measures (e.g. PROMIS); (2) Developing and improving methods to evaluate novel immunomodulatory therapies and treatment strategies; and (3) Evaluating the role of oral inflammation as a disease initiating or amplifying factor in RA;. Additional ongoing collaborative projects are evaluating advanced technologies and molecular diagnostics for imaging RA and OA, mechanisms and mediators of pain in arthritis, and novel bioengineered compounds and stem cells to reduce inflammation and potentially promote joint repair.
