Dr. Daniel J. Valaik is an assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. His areas of expertise include joint preserving surgeries of the hip and knee as well as total joint replacement surgery.
Dr. Valaik graduated with honors from the United States Naval Academy in 1983 and then served as a Navy SEAL for six years. He received his M.D. at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, completed a residency in orthopaedics at the National Naval Medical Center and did a fellowship in adult reconstruction at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
After 26 years of service in the U.S. Navy, Dr. Valaik returned to Hopkins. His last position in the military was serving as the chief of the Orthopaedic Service at Walter Reed and the National Naval Medical Center.
Dr. Valaik is a past president of the Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons, and is a member the Orthopaedic Trauma Association and the Society of Medical Consultants to the Armed Forces. He is also an American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Fellow.
