Dr. Eckhauser completed all of his surgical training at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and spent six months at the Frenchay Hospital and the Bristol Royal Infirmary in England as a Senior registrar in Thoracic Surgery. He served as the Charles G. Child III Professor of Surgery and Chief of the Division of GI Surgery at the University of Michigan for 25 years before returning to Johns Hopkins Hospital in 2001. He currently serves as Professor of Surgery and Interim Chief of the Ravitch Division of Surgery. His main clinical interests include alimentary tract surgery, with a special interest in pancreatic and biliary diseases, gastric motility disturbances, re-operative surgery of the GI tract, and complex abdominal wall reconstruction for incisional hernias. He is nationally recognized for his accomplishments in pancreatic cancer surgery and complex abdominal wall reconstruction.
Frederic E. Eckhauser received his undergraduate degree from the State University of New York at Binghamton and his medical degree from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine.
