Biography

Dr. Michelle M. Estrella is an assistant professor of medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Her areas of clinical expertise include epidemiology, kidney diseases and nephrology.

Dr. Estrella serves as associate director of the Nephrology Fellowship Program and assistant co-director of the Renal Disease Epidemiology Training Program.

She received her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston and completed her residency in internal medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She performed her fellowship in nephrology at Johns Hopkins and also received a master’s degree in health science from the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Her research interests include epidemiological and translational studies focused on kidney disease and its consequences, particularly among HIV-infected individuals. She is also focused on the discovery and utility of renal biomarkers in the context of several kidney diseases and in the epidemiological research of chronic kidney disease and nephrotic syndromes.

    Research Summary

    Dr. Estrella’s research interests include epidemiological and translational studies focused on kidney disease and its consequences, particularly among HIV-infected individuals. In addition, she is interested in the discovery and utility of renal biomarkers in the context of several kidney diseases and in the epidemiological research of chronic kidney disease and nephrotic syndromes.
