Biography

Dr. Ralph Tufano is the Director of the Division of Head and Neck Endocrine Surgery and conducts thyroid surgery with a focus on minimally invasive video assisted thyroid surgery and recurrent thyroid cancer. He helps patients with parathyroid disease, head and neck cancer, benign thyroid disorders, management of nodal metastais, recurrent laryngeal nerve monitoring molecular markers for disagnosis and prognosis of thyroid cancer and specializes in novel treatment techniques for thyroid and parathyroid deseases.

    Thyroidectomy - Nikki's Story

    Professional singer Nikki Jean saw doctors around the country when she was diagnosed with a lesion in her thyroid. It wasn't until she met Dr. Ralph Tufano at Johns Hopkins that she felt confident to have the surgery, hopeful he could preserve her vocal cords. Using information from his own cutting-edge research, Dr. Tufano successfully performed a full thyroidectomy while preserving all of Nikki's nerves critical for singing. Now, Nikki Jean is back in Los Angeles with a successful singing career.
