Dr. Doug Gladstone is a hematologist and medical oncologist at the Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center, and is an Associate Professor of Oncology and Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He received his medical degree in 1992 from the New York University School of Medicine, completed residency at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York, in 1995, and became chief resident at the University of Rochester from 1995-1996. Dr. Gladstone completed his fellowship in oncology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He was recruited to the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins in 2008 to assume a new leadership role focusing on better integrated clinical care and clinical investigation in patients with hematologic malignancies, bone marrow transplantation (BMT), and autoimmunity.
Dr. Gladstone’s primary clinical responsibilities are focused on directing and re-invigorating the Inpatient/Outpatient (IPOP) service that fulfills nearly 1,000 patient visits each month. He has overseen an expansion in IPOP numbers, with his first successful undertaking of re-engineering patient scheduling to better utilize hospital resources. In addition, he directly supervises the nurse practitioners in IPOP, and oversees ongoing physical renovations of the unit. In 2011, he was appointed Director of clinical services, Hematologic Malignancies, and successfully implemented a new patient care model that integrates the four inpatient hematologic malignancy services. Dr. Gladstone sees patients three times weekly in his hematology clinic.
An active researcher, Dr. Gladstone specializes in studies of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). He has great interest in treating patients with bone marrow transplants, and specialized haploidentical (half-match) bone marrow transplantation regimens. His work has resulted in multiple publications in the scientific literature and presentations at national meetings.
