Pediatric Hematology Oncology


Dr. Jeffrey Keefer is an assistant professor of pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. His clinical interests are related to sickle cell disease and bleeding disorders. 

A 1986 graduate of the University of Virginia, Dr. Keefer received his Ph.D. in pharmacology and his medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, where he was also a postdoctoral research fellow. He trained in pediatrics and completed a fellowship in pediatric hematology and oncology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. He has served since at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center as chief resident and instructor in pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Hematology, where he is today an assistant professor.

His research focuses on novel therapeutics for sickle cell disease, where he is active in both basic science and clinical trials.  

Dr. Keefer also has a long-standing commitment to teaching and mentoring. He is the co-director of the pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship training program, serves as a pediatric resident advisor, and has received teaching awards from both the pediatric house staff and the pediatric hematology/oncology fellows. more
