Research Interests

Peripheral Nerve Regeneration

Dr. Richard Redett is an associate professor of plastic and reconstructive surgery and pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. His areas of clinical expertise include pediatric plastic surgery, cleft lip and palate surgery, obstetric brachial plexus palsy reconstruction, facial paralysis, congenital nevi, pediatric burn surgery and reconstruction, and adult reconstructive surgery.

Dr. Redett serves as the director of the Cleft and Craniofacial Center, the director of the Facial Paralysis and Pain Center, the director of the Plastic Surgery Residency Program and the director of Pediatric Plastic Surgery at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. He is also the director of the Brachial Plexus Clinic at the Kennedy Krieger Institute.

He graduated from Dartmouth Medical School after earning his undergraduate degrees in biology and psychology at Emory University. He did his general surgery and plastic surgery training at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. After completing a one-year pediatric plastic surgery fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada, Dr. Redett joined the Johns Hopkins faculty.

Dr. Redett is actively engaged in nerve regeneration research and has published numerous scientific papers and book chapters.

He is board certified in plastic surgery. Dr. Redett lectures nationally on facial paralysis and pediatric plastic surgery topics. He is a member of many professional organizations including Plastic Surgery Research Council and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. In 2008, the American Society of Reconstructive Microsurgeons selected Dr. Redett as one of the five best microsurgery cases of the year.

Dr. Redett has a strong commitment to international health and has done many medical missions to Central and South America. He and his wife Becky are the proud parents of three wonderful children.
