Biography

Dr. Bronwyn Jones is Director of the Johns Hopkins Swallowing Center and a Professor in the Johns Hopkins Medicine Department of Radiology and Radiological Science. Her area of clinical expertise is gastrointestinal radiology.

Dr. Jones also serves as the Section Head for Gastrointestinal Radiology at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.

Dr. Jones received her medical degree from the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. She completed a residency in internal medicine at Prince Henry/Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney and a residency in radiology at King’s College Hospital in London, England. She performed a fellowship in radiology at St. Thomas’ Hospital in London. Dr. Jones joined the Johns Hopkins faculty in 1981.

Prior to joining Johns Hopkins, Dr. Jones was the head of gastrointestinal radiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.

Dr. Jones'' research interests include swallowing disorders, gastrointestinal disorders, and applicability of computed tomography to the GI tract, inflammatory bowel disease and celiac disease. Special research interests within dysphagia include pharyngoesophageal interrelationships, post-polio dysphagia, dysphagia and systemic disease, and psychogenic dysphagia.

She has written numerous books, chapters, articles and abstracts related to gastrointestinal radiology. Dr. Jones was a founding member and past-president of the Dysphagia Research Society, where she still serves as archivist. She also founded and served as the editor-in-chief of Dysphagia, an international journal that focuses on swallowing disorders.

Dr. Jones serves as a member of the executive committee for the Department of Radiology and Radiological Science and directs the Career Development Advisory Committee. She was recognized with the 2007 Walter B. Cannon Medal from the Society of Gastrointestinal Radiologists.

    Research Summary

    Dr. Jones' research interests include swallowing disorders, gastrointestinal (GI) disorders following bone marrow transplantation, GI infections in the immune-compromised patient, and applicability of computed tomography to the GI tract, inflammatory bowel disease and celiac disease. Special research interests within dysphagia include pharyngoesophageal interrelationships, post-polio dysphagia, dysphagia and systemic disease, and psychogenic dysphagia.

    She is a prolific writer on topics relating to gastrointestinal radiology. In all, she edited four books, wrote 53 chapters, 108 refereed articles, 51 abstracts and presented hundreds of lectures in the United States and abroad.
