Dr. Anne Murphy is a Professor of Pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Her areas of clinical expertise include pediatric congenital heart disease, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, inherited heart diseases and general pediatric cardiology. She participates in the HCMNet a network that conducts studies and clinical trials in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
Dr. Murphy also serves as the Vice Chair for Basic and Translational Research for the Department of Pediatrics.
She earned her M.D. from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and completed her residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. She performed a fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. She was an attending pediatric cardiologist at St. Louis Children's Hospital prior to her appointment at Johns Hopkins.
Dr. Murphy maintains a clinical practice as well as a research laboratory. Her laboratory has received grants from the American Heart Association, the National Institutes of Health and the Children's Cardiomyopathy Foundation. She has received the Rowe Award for Cardiology Research from the Society for Pediatric Research and the Meritorious Achievement Award from the American Heart Association Council on Cardiovascular Disease in the Young. Her research on the molecular basis of myocardial stunning was named one of the top 10 research achievements for 1999 by the American Heart Association.
Dr. Murphy is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a member of the Society for Pediatric Research.

Research & Publications
The Murphy lab focuses on the biology of the cardiac sarcomere-the molecular motor of the heart. We study how the proteins of the sarcomere are modified in diseases such as hypertrophic and dilated cardiomyopathy. This provides mechanistic understanding of the contribution of sarcomere dysfunction to disease and provides opportunities to intervene on these serious heart diseases.
