Biography

Dr. Ronald Lesser received his medical degree from the University of Southern California School of Medicine. He then completed an internship in pediatrics at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine and a residency in psychiatry at the New York State Psychiatric Institute. He went on to complete a research fellowship in neurophysiology and electroencephalography and a residency in neurology at the Neurological Institute at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center. Dr. Lesser then completed a fellowship in electroencephalography at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

Now a Professor of Neurology and Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Lesser focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of seizure disorders and the use of electrophysiologic techniques for the evaluation of central nervous system disorders. He is particularly interested in evaluating epileptic seizures that have been difficult to diagnose or have not responded to medication. He has a long-standing interest in the use of surgery for those patients that have not responded to medication. He is further interested in differentiating epileptic seizures from other disorders, such as fainting spells (syncope), that can imitate epileptic seizures.

Dr. Lesser is investigating the use of computer and microprocessor based digital signal processing techniques for the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy and evaluation of central nervous system function. He is working on the development of new forms of treatment for patients with intractable epileptic seizures using electrical stimulation and temperature control.

Dr. Lesser currently sees patients at The Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center located in Baltimore on Mondays and Wednesdays.
