Dr. Steven R. Jones is director of Inpatient Cardiology at the Johns Hopkins Heart and Vascular Institute, and assistant professor of medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He earned his medical degree at Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia and completed both his residency training in Internal Medicine and his fellowship in Cardiology at Johns Hopkins. Dr. Jones is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and National Lipid Association and is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiology and clinical lipidology.
In his clinical work, Dr. Jones focuses on improving lipid (e.g., cholesterol) management and reducing the risk of heart disease. His research interests include developing a large-scale lipids database using real-world data to understand more about lipid disorders. Dr. Jones’ team has been highly productive, producing numerous publications in high-ranking medical journals such as Circulation, Journal of the American College of Cardiology and the Journal of American Medical Association, and have been invited to several international lectures and meetings to share their findings.
As a teacher, Dr. Jones is dedicated to developing the next generation of leaders in cardiology by combining Johns Hopkins’ deep research environment with a strong clinical training program for residents, fellows and medical students. Dr. Jones is also a Faculty member of the Ciccarone Center for the Prevention of Heart Disease and the Longscope Firm, Osler Medical Service. He is making great strides in shaping the field of cardiology at the Heart & Vascular Institute by providing a breadth of educational opportunities in lipids research.
