Dr. Leslie P. Plotnick is a professor of pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Her area of clinical expertise is pediatric endocrinology.

Dr. Plotnick received a bachelor’s in chemistry from Goucher College and a medical degree from the University Of Maryland School of Medicine, from which she graduated with honors in 1970. Since 1970, she has been at Johns Hopkins, where she completed her internship and residency in pediatrics, followed by a fellowship in pediatric endocrinology.

She became a full professor in 2000. She has served as clinical director of the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology for many years, and as interim division director twice.

Her major clinical interests are type 1 diabetes, growth and puberty disorders, and general pediatric endocrinology. She has authored and co-authored many papers on these topics. In addition, Dr. Plotnick has been invited to write many textbook chapters in pediatric endocrinology. She was selected to be among the few pediatric diabetes specialists to codify the standards of care for the American Diabetes Association.

Dr. Plotnick has been invited to participate in numerous clinical trials over the last three decades primarily in the areas of growth and growth hormones.

She has been instrumental, along with other members of the division, in educating more than one generation of pediatric residents, medical students and fellows in the basics and intricacies of clinical pediatric endocrinology. more
