Executives from South Carolina, Maryland and Virginia have been elected as new members of the Johns Hopkins Medicine Board of Trustees. They are Ronda K. Dean, Arnold I. Richman and Thomas G. Snead Jr.
Dean was Vice President of Parke-Davis Pharmaceuticals and General Manager of its Women's Health Division until 2000, when Parke-Davis' parent company, Warner-Lambert, merged with Pfizer. Since her retirement from the pharmaceutical industry, Dean founded the DaltonDemorest Company and is president of the DaltonDemorest Foundation. She resides in Charleston, S.C., where she is a board member of the Storm Eye Institute and WINGS for Kids, and is chairperson of the Community Action Board of Planned Parenthood of South Carolina. Dean is a member of the Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center Advisory Council.
Richman is Chairman and President of The Shelter Group, LLC -- a Baltimore-based national real estate development and property management company specializing in multi-family and senior living rental communities. He is a Past President of the National Council for Johns Hopkins Medicine.
Snead, President of Richmond-based Anthem Southeast since 2002, formerly served as Chairman & CEO of Trigon Healthcare in Richmond. He also has served as President, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer of Trigon. A director of the American Association of Health Plans (AAHP), Riverside Health Systems, Land America, Maymont Foundation, SunTrust Regional Board and Richmond Renaissance, he is a member of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association's Health Policy and Legislative Committee and the Management Roundtable.
In addition to the new elected members, two new ex officio members have joined the Johns Hopkins Medicine (JHM) board. They are Brenda Erozan, president of the Women's Board of The Johns Hopkins Hospital, and David J. Gallitano, vice chairman of the Howard County General Hospital board, who joins HCGH board chairman William H. Munn on the Hopkins Medicine board.
In other action, the JHM board named Sidney Kimmel an honorary trustee and reelected its chairman, Lenox D. Baker Jr., M.D., and its Vice Chairmen, William C. Baker, Shale D. Stiller, and Francis X. Knott.
"We're extraordinarily fortunate to have business and civic leaders of this caliber willing to share their time and their experience with us," said Edward D. Miller, M.D., Chief Executive Officer and Dean of Johns Hopkins Medicine. "Their contribution to our success is invaluable."
