Hopkins Names New Director For Radio Service

Award-winning freelance medical journalist Mat Edelson will be the new voice of the Johns Hopkins HealthNewsfeed radio service, a daily one-minute medical news program heard throughout the U.S. on public and commercial stations, and internationally over Voice of America. The free service, now in its 14th year, spotlights medical information of interest to the general public. The programs, and its scripts, are also available on the World Wide Web at http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/healthnewsfeed

Edelson brings more than a decade of television, radio, and magazine journalism experience to the post, including stints as a producer/reporter at National Public Radio and Senior Writer for Baltimore Magazine. His investigative, public service, and feature reporting while at Baltimore Magazine earned him several Maryland Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) and City and Regional Magazine Association (CRMA) awards. He was a finalist for an ASME (American Society of Magazine Editors) award, the magazine industry’s highest honor, and his work has been published in Houghton Mifflin’s The Best American Sports Writing.

Edelson's freelance medical credits include articles in Washingtonian, American Health, Spa Magazine, USA Weekend, and Johns Hopkins Medical News. He also is an editorial consultant and is working on a book about Holocaust survivors seeking information on lost family.

Health NewsFeed, which has won national journalism and public relations awards, is produced by the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions Office of Communications and Public Affairs.
